SharePoint Vitals now connects to Office 365 Audit Logs which ensures that every click is recorded and analysed to give you a full in-depth experience.
Vitals used to only be able to capture information from front-end interaction with users which worked perfectly well for on premise and the classic version of SharePoint Online. With the modern look and feel coming to SharePoint online, this caused a major issue with analysing traffic from users, and we needed to take a different approach.
We took advice from Microsoft and leveraged the Office 365 Graph API and Audit logs to start analysing traffic in a more secure reliable way which will make us future proof. This new approach and method has some great new benefits; we can now analyse usage across the entire Office 365 tenant as well as from other means of entry such as the SharePoint application and OneDrive.
Several customers have asked how we differentiate ourselves from simply exporting the audit logs and reviewing the analytics manually.
These are the five major benefits we supply that this method simply doesn’t or cannot.
- Automation of the entire process: no manual intervention is needed after setup;
- Built in reports and filters: ready to use, build for SharePoint and OneDrive information ;
- All time data: Kept for all time not just 90 days;
- Hybrid compatible: Review both on premises and online in one area, true hybrid; and
- Future development across the Office 365 stack to showcase all analytics not just SharePoint and OneDrive
